This post went up Antenna Hills today, and saw very overcast skies.  The skies over MM were opaque.  And pollution have come back with vengeance?

Which is a better technology: fuel cells (hydrogen fuel) or EVs?

Toyota volunteers Mirai cars; experts disagree

In the Paris Olympic, Toyota has volunteered fuel cell hydrogen run cars (no longer ICE) and yet many environmentalists objected to the idea.  

To my mind fuel cell (hydrogen) technology is a better cleaner alternative.  Because there are plenty of blue hydrogen (naturally occurring hydrogen)    Storage and transport is a problem.  But even Elon Musk is shifting to hydrogen and leaving behind EV.  

EV is dependent on strategic metals, the mining of which is less than ideal:   child labor, destruction of forest and scarring mine sites.   Its hard to dispose of old batteries too.   

I go for hydrogen as more sustainable and less polluting.  How about you

Polluted source of water - Laguna Lake

This morning I was at Wawa of this town, and I noticed a large drain colored ink draining into the Laguna Lake.  As we all know, the source of Manila water and Maynilad is from Laguna Lake.

Lately the water coming our of faucet at Franchise of Manila water was colored yellow and smelled bad.  

For a while a week or two, the water supply was in trickles.  It is starting to be normal now.

There has to be way to make water at Laguna lake less polluted.

Renewables not taking off in PH? Why?

I did a great deal of study on renewables especially solar. But several thing are standing in the way of renewables:

1. The idea that we must provide low cost electricity to the people (political motive) And coal is about P3.00+  per kwh.   Solar would be about  P10+  because of low FIT

2.  The DUI are not buying the more expensive solar.

3. The power gen from the  rooftop has been effectively stopped by a big DUI. The max  amount that can be bought by DUI is 100 kwh, and only at Generation cost which is very low.l...

But Houston, Earth has a big problem on Energy:

People from DOE (kaya kayo sinususpende ni Du30 eh) you are not thinking well of the world and country's future.  You are thinking with your  wallets...Para sa bayan please:

I know of several people suddenly getting ill when the cold nights started coming in, the BRE months.   It is not because of the cold, its because of pollution which seems to be getting worse.  In our office, absences due to people calling sick is on the rise.

Today, thanks to the hot summer sun and the strong easterlies, the skies were clear.  The polluted air either evaporated and was blown off by the wind to the west.

How has the New Year celebration affected MM air quality?

At the start of new year, we are going to meet very high levels of air pollution.  Yesterday, or last midnight revelry, ie the smoke from the fireworks, would have accumulated and will settle down among us because it is raining today.

Yesterday's AIR QUALITY INDEX  (please follow and subscribe so that you too can monitor air pollution factually) was 715 in Makati, and 210 and 187 around Muntinglupa area.

Green or       0-50 index would be healthy.
Orange    101 -150 would be unhealthy for sensitive groups
Red          151- 200 - would be really unhealthy
Violet -    201 -300 very unhealthy
Maroon - 300+ Hazardous

Violet maroon and orange levels were reached Thursday.

Air Quality today would be much worse

Is there abatement in Air Pollution in MM? I do not think so!! When is the time to act?

The year is about to end. We see extreme cases of air pollution in Beijing China.  It is so bad that visibility is only a few meters, children have to asked to stay at home (no classes) and factories asked to stop operating to lessen emission.

  Shall we wait for this to happen in MM.  So far, there is no concrete action being taken. (What with open acceptance of jeep and tricycle that pollute the street air, or the coal fired power plants.  Mura kasi nasa P3/kwh)

The pea soup air at MM two years ago is still the same.

However Air Quality Index Monitoring shows air quality is OK

Look at this sunset.   Some say that a reddish hue of sunset means that there is either rain clouds at the horizon or pollution.  Which one  is right?

Those Cabinet Sec who need to be more do more should be the DOH, DENR, and DOTC in matter of combatting air pollution.

First we do not know the pollution level at pm 10 or 2.5?

Have we upgraded our standards to 2.5

What re real concrete measures being undertaken by the above 3 to bring down pollution levels. ?

Are the sporadic air testing at the roadside enough (what about bribery?)

Are the LTO testing prior to registration (emission test) effective?  I understand, when you pay extra, every vehicle that does so passes the emission test and the registration is automatically renew.

It is Ash Wednesday today.  It is reminder that there are plenty of pollutants:  of ash and dust at MM air.  And nothing yet has been done to reduce its volume, or growth.  The clean air act, the EMB, DENR are powerless to control this or enforce the law?
