Year ender post on air pollution from the Lakeside, in Rizal on December 29 2013

Clean air, act

Rizal, Philippines | December 29, 2013

Why is the sky rusty colored near the horizon?  What is the black plume of smoke rising?

This could have been a post on anytime of the year because the sights are the same.  Nothing has changed.  It has been the same, the entire year we have been posting and yelling and shouting.  Look guys who are running this country.  Look.

Look, if they did not act together in  deadly situation like Super Typhoon Yolanda, what can we expect in something that is slow acting and yet is as deadly?

Look again

Nice view of the park being developed; but not the skyline

Great looking sea, but not the air over Alabang/Laguna

What is the dark cloud rising over BGC/Makati?

There  is no pollution yet because seabirds still fly?

Why is the visibility at the horizon 0 today;  why is it orange colored just like the flaglet?

Everything is OK, there is no air pollution?  This may not be getting much attention of the DENR staff unlike mines, forestry, ECC, etc because maybe there is no money in smoke. Bleh....

Pollution over a steel plant in Taytay, near Baytown road

What is the dark cloud over Makati?  Why is there such a cloud?

Why cant we see the buildings?

A picturesque scene, but ugly health and environment wise

A seabird minding his meal, and not the air we breathe

Clean air, act

Rizal  Philippines  |  December 22, 2013

Merry Christmas to all

As I was taking photos of this air pollution, people who were watching why?  I said, the ST Yolanda that hit Central Visayas on November 8, 2013 came from carbon emissions/air pollution and many do not see that connection.  The tricycle driver, the jeepney driver, the bonfire maker does not see that.

The effect of what we do does not affect us immediately. The garbage and plastic that we throw carelessly away do not come back to us, until say one year after when it floods.

And so with air pollution.   The heart disease and cancer that air pollution can cause may show up five years from now from those who inhale the foul air.

What about the global warming (from greenhouse gases resulting from carbon emission/pollution)?  Well it is here it struck our brethren last November 8, 2013.

At what cost:   6,000+ lives lost and billions in damages.  It toppled electric towers, it meant at least 2 billion pesos and destroyed power generators.  It is striking back power companies using diesel, bunker fuels, and coal.  Why cant we wake up to the fact.  As of now, it means less demand and less sales, if not losses.

This site think we can understand this.

Cold air means more air pollution settling low in the morning

Clean air act

Rizal  Philippines  |  December 20, 2013

It is 4 days before Christmas (Merry Christmas)

The air is cold in the morning and the air pollutants hang low over MM and the Laguna Lake.  While the rest of the lake looks placid and calm, the skies look ominous with the evil that it brings to health and the climate.

That is Asahi (Republic Glass) smokestack?

Fishing birds and BGC at the background

Water lilies are good anti water pollution plants, they clean up the lake

Not much air pollution in Iloilo City December 15, 2013

Air pollution kills

Iloilo City, December 15, 2013

A smoke belching off road vehicle

There are occasional air polluters in Iloilo City, but are very few. The EMB/DENR officials/enforcers must be very busy and very strict here.  Two nights ago, I was with a DENR ranger assigned in Guimaras.  They just had a conference in Angeles City.

Very bad air pollution in northern and easter China; school children ordered indoors

Air pollution kills

Repost from the Guardina | December 6, 2013

Shanghai exprienced its worst air pollution in years stopping construction work, obscuring visibility to a few dozen feet, forcing children to be held indoors.   The PM 2.5 level was at 602.5 micrograms vs the standard set by WHO to be at only 25 micrograms. This is 30 times more than the WHO standard.  There were fewer people walking on the street and fewer vehicles as the govt ordered the pulling out 30% of its vehicles from the street. The air pollution was characterized as yellow smog.  The city has 14 million population

Shanghai's air pollution was blamed on emissions from factories, vehicles, and changing weather patterns.

However, efforts are seen from Shanghai's public sector as sentiments from Chinas elite regarding air pollution is changing.  Before, having smog was seen as sign of industrialization  From PBS News

Will this happen in the Philippines as air temeperature gets lower, being December?

How is this air pollution going to afffect the Philippine?  The climate change?

A man flies kite at The Bund on December 5, 2013 in Shanghai, China. Heavy smog continued to hit northern and eastern parts of China on Thursday, disturbing the traffic, worsening air pollution and forcing the closure of schools.
