Incidence of cancer in non smokers linked to air pollution

From Reuters 2011

People who never smoked but who lived in areas with high level of air pollution are more likely to develop lung cancer than those who did not  and those who are most likely to get it are women.  Lung cancer among non smokers is 6th leading incident of cancer deaths in USA.

The study was conducted by Harvard School of Public Health, which says that air pollution standards must be kept as low as possible.

As stated earlier, the fine particles (PM 2.5) are responsible for creating irritation and inflammation in the lungs.

The study covered 26 years 180,000 samples in all states in USA.  1,100 died from lung cancer

In China, a study in 2009 attributed lung cancer to indoor air pollution, ie burning wooden stoves in homes
